The Detroit Red Wings Tie NHL Record for Consecutive Home Wins
Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

The Detroit Red Wings are a legendary NHL Franchise. They’re an original six club with 11 Stanley Cup championships, most among any U.S. based teams. So it would make sense that such a historically significant hockey team would break another historically significant NHL record on Sunday night.

Detroit equaled an NHL record with their 20th straight win at home when they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 on a Johan Franzen’s tie-breaking goal early in the third period.

The feat tied the Red Wings with the 1929-30 Boston Bruins and the 1976 Philadelphia Flyers. Detroit can pick up win number 21 and break the record with a win Tuesday night over the Dallas Stars at Joe Louis Arena.

In case you’re wondering the Red Wings won the first two meetings in Dallas by a combined score of 10-6. This will be the Stars first visit to Joe Louis Arena since a 4-1 victory over Detroit on Feb. 24, 2011.
