The Anaheim Ducks may have a keeper on their hands. Emerson Etem of the Medicine Hat Tigers became the first Western Hockey League player in 11 seasons to record 50 goals in 50 of fewer games.

The 19-year-old California native picked up a pair of goals – his 50th and 51st of the season – in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Some notable accomplishments for Etem during his incredible run…

* He scored in each of his first eight games of the season and in 16 of his first 17 games overall.
* He racked up 14 goals in an eleven game stretch from December 10th to January 27th.
* He has 11 multi-goal games and five hat tricks this season.

Ducks fans are salivating at the thought of Etem bringing some of that goal scoring magic to the Honda Center. Can you blame them? It’s not like this happens very often.

Only three other Western Hockey League players have ever pulled off 50 goals in 50 games. The last player to accomplish the feat was Layne Ulmer of the Swift Current Broncos, who scored 51 in 47 games in 2000-01, Pavel Brendl did it in 43 games for the Calgary Hitmen during the 1998-99 season and Mark Parrish scored 50 goals in 50 games for the Seattle Thunderbirds in 1997-98.

It’s been done five times in the NHL by guys names Richard, Bossy, Gretzky, Lemieux and Hull. You get my point.

The video was taken with a cell phone but the significance of the goal is still very evident. Enjoy!
