Milan Lucic’s Vancouver Church Desecrated by Canucks Fans
We all know that Canucks fans are pretty intense about their team - just ask the Boston Bruins (and the Mounted Police who had to get the streets of Vancouver under control after the rioting when the Bruins won the Stanley Cup last season).
I am all for being a passionate sports fan and consider myself one, but this is going way beyond that line.
According to YAHOO! SPORTS Puck Daddy, Brittany Carnegie (Bruins’ Milan Lucic’s girlfriend) posted the above picture yesterday through her private Twitter account along with the following tweet:
“This is DISGUSTING! Punks did this to Milan [sic] beloved church! So disgusting!”
The photo is of St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Burnaby (where the Lucic family attends services) after it had been vandalized with graffiti. Although Lucic plays for Boston, he was born in east Vancouver and grew up a Canucks fan himself.
As Thomas Drance, blogger at CanucksArmy.com, appropriately points out:
Clearly this isn’t the work of the “Canucks fanbase” as a whole, it’s the work of a couple of twisted miscreants – but it would be dishonest to write this off as an “isolated incident”. Beyond the riots, Milan Lucic and his family were subject to some harassment over the summer.
Most of the time, hockey fans do things that make the rest of us proud to be part of the fanbase; but this is clearly not one of those times or things. This goes beyond being a fan and has absolutely nothing to do with the love of hockey or hockey team. These people / this person should clearly be ashamed of themselves / herself / himself.
