The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the San Jose Sharks by a 3-2 count on Friday night, but that almost wasn’t the case.

It took a whiff of epic proportions for the Canes to hang onto that victory, staving off a late flurry from the Sharks. That whiff came courtesy of San Jose captain, Joe Thornton.

With just over five seconds remaining, Thornton sat by the far post and had the puck float over to him. All he had to do was flip it to the wide open area left by Justin Peters and we’d have overtime. Only he didn’t..
