Flyers Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov Breaks His Three Month Twitter Silence
One of the more colorful, if not the most colorful characters in the NHL is Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. Since joining the Flyers this season his personality was relatively unknown. But thanks to a series of colorful interviews and quotes, we just can’t get enough of his interesting pearls of wisdom.
One of the Russian goalies newest revelations shed light on the fact that he is afraid of bears…not the Bruins or even the Chicago Bears but bears in general.
When a reporter recently asked Bryzgalov, “What’s the biggest threat the (Pittsburgh) Penguins have? The eccentric hockey star responded with, “You know, I’m not afraid of anything. I’m afraid of bears — bears in the forest.”
Of course the news of his newly exposed phobia instantly spread across the hockey community like wildfire, thanks to Twitter. His teammate Jaromir Jagr (@jaromir68) even tweeted the following gem…
The story became such a hit with opposing teams fans, many of them showed up to the Flyers first round series with the Penguins dressed in bear costumes. After his team fell behind 2-0 in game one, fans in Pittsburgh began to chant, “We love bears! We love bears!”
So far it hasn’t fazed Bryzgalov as his team rallied in consecutive games to grab a commanding 2-0 lead in the series heading back to Philadelphia.
Fortunately for us, Bryz is a weird dude and supplied us with yet another wonderful gem to have fun with. Bryzgalov (@bryzgoalie30) has a twitter account, but hadn’t used it since January and on Saturday he broke his three month silence in a “humongous, big” way.
This dancing bear Gif is another hilarious way for him to poke fun at himself while still being Bryz. As a New Jersey Devils fan, even I find it hard to dislike this guy. Besides, my mother told me never to make fun of people…even the strange ones and Bryzgalov is certainly that.
