This week, the Memorial Tournament is being held at the famed Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH. Muirfield is one of the most well liked courses on the PGA Tour, especially considering the fact that it is modeled after Augusta National.
This week’s roster boasts 11 of the top 15 players in the world, 20 of the top 30 and 30 of the 50. Needless to say, whoever wins this week will have their work cut out for them. The entrants into the Memorial also include the likes of Bubba Watson (who had taken a few weeks off to spend time with his wife and newly adopted son) and Dustin Johnson (who has not played since Doral in March due to lingering issues with his back). Two of the hottest players on tour as of late will not be participating this week, however. Both Jason Dufner and Matt Kuchar decided they needed some down time this week.
Rickie Fowler has been getting a great deal of press this week, largely due to the success he has seen at Muirfield throughout his young career. Fowler has 4 consecutive top 10 finishes, including his win at the Wells Fargo Championship … not to mention the fact that he finished 2nd at the Memorial 2 years ago after giving up the lead on the back nine.
With such a stacked field, the odds makers are either loving life or hating it, I’m not entirely sure. There does, however, seem to be a general consensus that Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler have the best chances to win this week.
