Indiana Pacers Push Orlando Magic to the Brink of Extinction in NBA Playoffs
The Indiana Pacers have not lost a game on the road since March 31st. In game 4 of the opening round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs, Indiana won their second road game of the series against the Orlando Magic. Orlando gave Indiana all they could handle, but fell short at home once again, losing 101-99 in overtime. The loss in game 4 was the fourth time this season that the Magic have lost by only two points.
In front of a fiery crowd of 18,846, the Magic put up their best effort. That effort may have possibly resulted in a last gasp, as the series now stands at 3-1 in favor of the Pacers. The Magic erased a 19-point Indiana lead, and brought the game into overtime, but could never get over the hump.
The Pacers, who stood their ground during Orlando’s comeback, could never quite put the Magic away. Orlando had a chance to tie the score for a 9th time in the game’s final seconds, but missed the last shot, and missed the opportunity to take Indiana into double-overtime. The Pacers showed poise in the win on the road, fighting an anxious crowd and a team playing on the ropes. There was a sense of desperation in the air, the knowing that if Orlando couldn’t pull out this win at home, they would need to win three games in a row to avoid ending their season. The series returns to Indianapolis on Tuesday for game 5, where the Pacers will have a chance to put Orlando away and to win their first playoff series in eight years.
