Manning in the Dark About The Next Head Coach For The Colts. More Signs Point To An Indianapolis Departure.
Another day gone, another day closer to the end of the era where Peyton Manning leads the Indianapolis Colts. In recent news Manning tells Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star that he is completely in the dark about the coaching search. That news leads you to the conclusion that it’s in with the new head coach and out with Peyton Manning.
With every veteran super star on your team you have to consider their feelings about a possible coach coming in, but I guess the Colts missed that memo.
It is a sad day to the already sad off season for the Colts fans, and another sign that Andrew Luck will be the starting quarterback in 2012. This has to put a sick feeling in your stomach, knowing that the last decade of arguably the best quarterback ever taking snaps, is a thing of the past.
So where do the Colts go from here? Will the older players follow Manning out the door?
The Colts hired a new GM, soon to hire a new coach, and will draft the next quarterback in April so where does the state of the franchise lay? The Colts should consider one thing if they are about to throw a future hall of famer out the door, they better know if Luck can play.
Let’s imagine if Luck is a bust, and Manning has signed with another team. The Colts organization has now just fell back at least three seasons, and then what, Jim Irsay fires his whole staff again? The Colts better make sure there is a back up plan to Luck just in case this happens. They better be 100% positive this is the right guy to follow Manning. It has been seen in other organizations that it is almost impossible to follow a Hall of Fame quarterback right away. The 49ers, Broncos, Bills, and Dolphins all had hall of fame quarterbacks and they still haven’t found one that can handle the pressure and the spot light that comes with the position.
As far as Manning, opportunities will come flying at him. He is a future Hall of Famer and teams have already rumored to show interest in him. Can you imagine Manning as a Jet? The New York media would have a field day with both Manning’s in New York. What about the Dolphins, with a wide out like Brandon Marshall receiving. As rumored, the Redskins would be interested as well.
The saddest thing is that the once proud organization and their franchise quarterback that other teams looked up to, is headed for a very nasty divorce.
