Even though there was a lot of good news Sunday for the Indianapolis Colts when they acquired cornerback Vontae Davis in a trade, some bad recently just came in. According to Pro Football Talk, nose tackle Brandon McKinney has been placed on the Injured Reserve list after he tore his ACL, as announced by head coach Chuck Pagano.
The injury happened during the Colts’ 30-17 loss to the Washington Redskins Saturday in a preseason matchup. McKinney was brought in by Pagano, who recruited several of his former Baltimore Ravens players to come to Indy. Along with McKinney, Pagano also brought defensive tackle Cory Redding and safety Tom Zbikowski.
McKinney was originally an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State before being acquired by the San Diego Chargers in 2006. The 28-year-old then went on to play for the Ravens two years later.
McKinney was needed to anchor the team’s front line, bringing veteran leadership and stuffing up the middle. It’s a big loss, but Indianapolis will find a way to get past it.
Talk about a big blow to the Colts defensive front. Best of luck to McKinney on his recovery.
