The Jaguars decided back before the season started to end running back Rashad Jennings season before it even started by placing him on the injured reserve list with a mysterious knee injury.
The injury obviously was not serious enough to keep Jennings out for the season, because he tweeted out on Wednesday that his knee has recovered and he would be ready to play next week if he was still on the active roster.
Jennings had a break out season in 2010 and was going to see a bigger role in the Jaguars offense in 2011 before getting injured in the third preseason game. Jaguars general manager Gene Smith obviously did not feel comfortable holding a spot on the 53-man roster for Jennings despite the possibility he would be able to play at some point this season. At this point with how ineffective Deji Karim has been in his role of spelling Maurice Jones-Drew it seems that Smith made the wrong decision to end Jennings season.
I completely understand Smith trying to get the most he can out of his active roster, but you have to believe having Jennings available for 10 weeks is way more valuable than having whoever the last guy on the roster is sitting on the inactive list every week.
It appears that this is just another in a line of head scratching decision that have led to Jaguars to their 1-4 start.
