Jacksonville Jaguars Waive Wide Receiver Lee Evans
The Jacksonville Jaguars have cut veteran wide receiver Lee Evans after he spent the teams entire first preseason game on the sideline.
The Jaguars signed Evans earlier this offseason to a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum with a low signing bonus, so there was little risk for the team to bring him into camp to give him a shot. In the end, he never was able to flash any of the skill that made him such a dangerous deep threat in his seasons with the Buffalo Bills.
The performance by wide receivers Mike Thomas and Brian Robiskie in Friday night’s preseason game while Evans sat on the sideline made him expendable. Given the young talent the Jaguars feel they have on the roster at the wide receiver position, Evans was likely a long shot to make the roster anyways.
The Jaguars also announced on Sunday that they waived/injured wide receiver Taylor Price. It is unknown what Price’s injury is, but he will go on the Jaguars injured reserve list if he clears waivers.
The Jaguars claimed Price off of waivers late last season after the New England Patriots cut him.
To fill the vacant roster spots, the Jaguars signed wide receiver Demetrius Williams and offensive lineman Josh Beekman.
Williams was out of football last season after being cut by the Cleveland Browns before the season and played his first three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
Like Williams, Beekman was also out of football last season after spending his 2010 season with the Florida Tuskers of the UFL. Prior to playing with the Tuskers, Beekman played his only four NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears.
