The Jacksonville Jaguars were among the last teams to release their final 53-man roster late Friday night.
In the end there were no real surprises as to who was released by the Jaguars, but they may not be done tinkering with their roster before they open their season next Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
The most notable among the Jaguars cuts were quarterback Jordan Palmer, safety Courtney Greene and last year’s fifth-round draft pick defensive back Rod Issac.
The Jaguars also released defensive lineman Kendrick Adams, Ryan Davis, Corvey Irvin and Odrick Ray; offensive tackles Daniel Baldridge and Lee Barbiasz; wide receivers Mike Brown and Demetrius Williams; tight end Colin Cloherty; defensive backs Antonio Dennard, Trumaine McBride and Leigh Torrence; running back Richard Murphy; fullback Will Ta’ufo’ou; and offensive lineman Will Robinson and D.J. Hall.
The biggest surprise among the moves the Jaguars made on Friday was their decision to place offensive lineman Will Rackley on the injured reserve list after suffering a setback of the high ankle sprain he suffered early in training camp.
The Jaguars also kept tight end Zach Miller and defensive end Austen Lane on the active roster despite their injuries. Either Miller or Lane would be eligible to come of the injured reserve list later in the season under the NFL rule that allows a team to designate one player to come off the list during the regular season.
Knowing that both Miller and Lane will not be healthy for some time, the Jaguars are expected to take a look at available tight ends and defensive ends on the waiver wire this weekend.
