NFL Rumors: Dwayne Bowe is in Kansas City
Earlier today there were a couple of random Tweets re-tweeted that some folks flying from Atlanta Georgia to Kansas City had seen Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on the flight. I started doing some snooping around, and I can confirm at this point that indeed Bowe is back in Kansas City. He was seen at KCI airport and we can only assume he’s headed to Chiefs facilities.
Bowe has been in the midst of a holdout wanting a new long term contract rather than play under the team’s franchise tag which according to NFL rules, would have only paid him a paltry $9.5 million this year.
Now, I can’t say for sure if Bowe is coming to town because he and the Chiefs have made progress on a long term contract, Bowe has decided to simply play under his franchise tender, or he’s just here for some BBQ and maybe headed to the water park. But no matter why, it’s a positive thing for Chiefs fans to see him in town.
The Chiefs have had a solid training camp sans Bowe, with fellow wide receiver Jon Baldwin having an excellent camp in a similar role. Having Bowe back in the fold with Baldwin, along with WR/RB Dexter McCluster and a healthy Jamaal Charles would make for a very potent Chiefs offense.
I expect Bowe to sign his tender, get into camp and play some football. The money they want to give him is significant and I have no doubt given his age and talent if he can produce at a high level this year, General Manager Scott Pioli will give Bowe the long term contract he is craving so badly.
If they can get Bowe into camp say next week, and get a couple of preseason games under his belt, he should be able to be in the starting lineup opening weekend with little drop-off in his game, and for quarterback Matt Cassel, having Bowe and Baldwin on the outside out be a dream come true.
