It is common for baseball fans to be a little overly optimistic about their favourite teams during Spring Training. For a Kansas City Royals team that has not reached the playoff since its 1985 World Series-winning season, it’s understandable why most fans have become relatively skeptical when it comes to the team’s prospective odds of being successful entering a new season. After all, the last time the team finished in second place in the AL Central standings was all the way back in 1995.

In browsing the team’s official Twitter page, @Royals, I came across this tweet promoting an on-going ticket giveaway:

“What’s your excuse? Submit your #Royals Opening Day excuse for a chance to win a Pepsi Max Pick 15 Plan! http://atmlb.com/kcexcusestw”

A clever fan, @croche94, immediately replied with this quip:

“Whats your excuse for fielding a s***** team for the past 20 years? #givemeabreak #hundredlosses”

Very comical, but while it is justifiable for a heavy dose of pessimism to exist within certain fans, perhaps these feelings are actually better served being kept on the back-burner as this 2011 campaign approaches.
