Have They Hit Rock-Bottom? (Royals vs. Blue Jays Series Preview & Tidbits)
Can it truly get any worse in Kansas City at this point? Baseball’s worst statistical team, the Minnesota Twins, just marched into Kauffman Stadium and swept the Royals in what turned into a painful 4-game series. With no time to recover, next comes the Toronto Blue Jays, who will be facing off with K.C. for the first time in 2011:
Mon. June. 6. 7:10 pm CT - Brandon Morrow (2-3, 5.11) v. Felipe Paulino (0-0, 0.00)
Tues. June. 7. 7:10 pm CT - Kyle Drabek (3-4, 4.69) v. TBA
Wed. June. 8. 7:10 pm CT - Carlos Villanueva (3-0, 2.72) v. Danny Duffy (0-1, 4.43)
Thurs. June. 9. 3:10 pm CT - Ricky Romero (5-5, 3.16) v. Luke Hochevar (3-6, 5.25)
The Royals will be wrapping up their longest home-stand of 2011 against Toronto. The Jays roster boasts MLB Home Run King Jose Bautista, who will be, as he always is, the absolute focal point of their line-up for these games.
As this is being written, the Royals have yet to announce who will make Tuesday night’s start. The vacancy occurs due to an injury to starter Sean O’Sullivan, who will be making an appearance on the 15-day disabled list.
Whoever makes the start for K.C. will be up against rookie Kyle Drabek, the key return acquisition in Toronto’s blockbuster deal of Roy Halladay to the Phillies last year. Drabek was tagged at home by the Indians last week and was unable to get out of the 1st inning. Therefore, he’ll be looking for a massive rebound.
Monday marks a big day in the baseball community- the 2011 MLB Draft! Kansas City holds the #5 overall selection in this year’s draft, and writer Bob Dutton recently wrote a quality piece profiling some of the potential prospects that GM Dayton Moore could select with his pick.
