Jonathan Bullard, one of the biggest freshman in Will Muschamp‘s first full-season recruiting class, arrived on campus just a few days before the Florida Gators begin their preseason camp on August 3.

The 6’4″ 255 lbs Bullard is ranked #1 overall in his position and the sixth best player overall in the entire nation according to Rivals.

With the spring injury to Ronald Powell, Bullard may get a chance to live up to his expectations sooner rather than later.

After committing to the Gators in the spring, Bullard was denied admission to the University of Florida’s Summer II semester.  UF officials would not comment on his academic status but everything is expected to be cleared up in time for Bullard to enroll in fall classes.

According to his high school coach, Mark Barnes, “He came by to see me and said he was going to be on his way.  He’s very excited about getting down there and getting started.”

Fans are excited too.

Bullard has potential, and Muschamp certainly has a good track record with defensive ends.

As the defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns, Muschamp developed some of the best defensive linemen in the country including Brian Orakpo and Sam Acho.

The future could not be much brighter for Bullard.  He is entering a great football program in a position of need, playing under a fiery young coach who is regarded as one of the better defensive minds in the game.

There is about a month left before kickoff.  Good thing Bullard is coming ready to work because there is a lot to be done before the Gators welcome the Bowling Green Falcons to “The Swamp” on September 1st.  Newcomers Texas A&M waits in week 2 and a rivalry date with Tennessee is on tap for the next week.  It is the first time in years that the Gators have a SEC game in the second week of the year.

That is quite the warm welcome for Bullard and his fellow freshmen.
