The Texas A&M Aggies are known for their loud chants and their intense traditions, making them a perfect fit for ESPN’s 2012 College Gameday Commercial. With the Aggies moving over the SEC, the school’s public relations department has been busy to say the least.
One national commercial has already been made by the school with their “Welcome to the SEC” video, but the Maroon and White have been hard at work publicizing their move to their new conference locally as well.
The advertising campaign has seemed to have culminated in the Aggies win of the ESPN College Gameday challenge in which the school with the most online votes would be the next to host one of the networks national commercials. The Aggies trailed early to Nebraska but the aggressive voting campaign led by the likes of Texas Governor Rick Perry and NFL Defensive Player of the Year (and former Aggie) Von Miller was too much for the Huskers in the end.
The ESPN film crew and stars arrived in College Station on Monday in order to film Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. The commercial will not air until later in the fall and ESPN refuses to reveal any details but the commercial apparently focuses on the Aggies’ “Midnight Yell” tradition. The tradition takes place the night before every home game at Kyle Field, where the students crowd into the student section and get pumped up for the upcoming game.
Reports from the school suggest around 3,500 students showed up in order to replicate the tradition for the commercial.
While we will have to wait until the football season kicks off to see the finished product of the commercial, but rumor is College Gameday may actually be coming to College Station on September 8th when the Aggies take on the Florida Gators in their first conference game as a member of the SEC.
