College Football Recruiting: Gators Get Colquitt County HS OT Octavius Jackson
As Sandra Bullock states in the Blindside, offensive tackle is one of the most important positions in the game of the football. NFL teams spend millions of dollars on them and college football powers spend countless hours recruiting them.
Hours on the recruiting trail paid off for the Florida Gators and offensive coordinator Brent Pease when they gained the commitment of class of 2013 offensive tackle Octavius Jackson. Jackson is commit no. 22 for the Gators in their 2013 class.
Jackson received an offer from the Gators on Tuesday of this week and made his decision public early Friday afternoon. The tackle held offers from Florida, Kentucky, South Florida, UCF, and Vanderbilt to name a few. He ultimately narrowed his list of schools down to a top three of Florida, South Florida, and Vanderbilt before deciding to play collegiate football in Gainesville.
Octavius Jackson, 6-foot-4 290 pounds, plays offensive tackle for the Colquitt County Packers, located in south Georgia. Colquitt County is a nationally ranked program and Jackson is expected to an anchor their offensive line this season.Other prospects from Colquitt County include quarterback Cole Seagraves and defensive back Bobby Hill.
“I think Octavius is the wave of the future for offensive linemen” , said Jackson’s coach Rush Prospt in a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Offenses have changed so much, to spread-type offenses, you need athletic kids because of all the screen plays and draws. I think he’s the most suited for that than any kid I’ve ever coached.”
