ACC Predictions: The Grand Finale
Over the last three weeks we have gone through the ACC, team by team, and made predictions of what their records will be by seasons end. I started with the Atlantic Division and made my way through all six teams alphabetically, and then I did the same with the Coastal Division. Now we attempt to put a nice bow on the 12 articles that preceded it, a chance to quickly summarize every team’s chances in 2012 and once again make predictions for the champions of each division followed by the ACC Champion.
Here are the predicted records for every team in the ACC for 2012:
Atlantic Division
Boston College: 4-8 (2-6 in ACC)
Clemson: 9-3 (6-2)
Florida State: 10-2 (6-2)
Maryland: 2-10 (1-7)
North Carolina State: 10-2 (6-2)
Wake Forest: 5-7 (3-5)
Coastal Division
Duke: 3-9 (0-8)
Georgia Tech: 9-3 (6-2)
Miami: 8-4 (5-3)
North Carolina: 6-6 (2-6)
Virginia: 6-6 (3-5)
Virginia Tech: 11-1 (7-1)
So there you have it. All 12 ACC teams with their predicted records for the upcoming season. The bottom dwellers of each division from last year (Maryland and Duke) will remain the same as last year.
The Atlantic Division will be a tight race with three teams (Clemson, FSU and NC State) tied for the title at the end of the year. Florida State will win the division because it will beat both Clemson and NC State during the regular season.
The Coastal Division will be a two horse race between the usual suspects (Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech). These two teams play in the first week of the season and I have predicted the Hokies to win, but if the Yellow Jackets can somehow win in Lane Stadium then they will have the advantage.
Virginia Tech will meet Florida State in the ACC Championship game in a rematch of the 2010 ACC Championship in which the Hokies came out on top. These two will meet earlier in the season on a Thursday night in Lane Stadium and Virginia Tech will win that game. The 2012 ACC Championship however will go the other way with Florida State gaining an automatic berth to the Orange Bowl.
