Shooting Occurs Near Texas A&M In College Station

After exchanging gunfire for half an hour Monday afternoon near Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, three were found to killed according to police. A Texas constable, male civilian, and the shooter were killed in the exchange. Four others were injured in the shooting as well.

The constable, 41-year-old Brian Bachmann, is the sixth Texas law enforcement officer killed this year. Bachmann had served as sheriff’s deputy since 1993 and was in his fourth-term as constable.

The shooter was identified by College Station officials as 35-year-old Thomas Cafall. His Facebook page reveals the man’s disturbed personality with multiple pictures of rifles on the page and a list of firearms designers and snipers as his inspirations. Cafall did not leave in College Station but in a nearby city.

The male civilian that was slain was determined to be 43-year-old Chris Northcliff.

The shooting is believed to have occurred at 12:10 P.M. Monday afternoon after Bachmann arrived at a home in College Station in order to serve an eviction notice. A bystander then heard gun shots and alerted authorities. The scene was believed to have taken just south of the Texas A&M campus.

In response to the shooting, Texas A&M officials issued a Code Maroon at 12:29 P.M., alerting students and faculty that there was a shooting in the immediate area and to avoid the area south of campus. A Code Maroon is the university’s alert system. The university issued a second Code Maroon at 12:44 P.M. stating the suspect had been detained after exchanging fire with College Station authorities.
