The Urban Meyer era is underway in Columbus, as the Ohio State Buckeyes battle the Miami, OH Redhawks. Meyer who won two BCS Titles at the University of Florida, came to Ohio State after a year hiatus, where he did some television work for ESPN.
Miami, OH looked solid on their first two drives, as they completed two huge pass plays. Quarterback Zac Dysert hit Nick Harwell for a 42-yard gain that took the Redhawks down to the Ohio State 22-yard line. Two more completions and a Buckeye offsides penalty, the Redhawks were forced to attempt a 24-yard field goal that Kaleb Patterson missed.
After a Buckeye three and out, Miami took over and Dysert hit Dawan Scott for a 58-yard gain. After three straight incompletions, Patterson redeemed himself with a 22-yard field goal that put the Redhawks up 3-0. The two teams traded possessions that brought about the end of the first quarter.
The Ohio State offense looked shaky until their first drive of the second quarter. Carlos Hyde exploded up the middle for a 16 yard gain that took the ball out to the Buckeye 33-yard line. Braxton Miller, on second down, rolled around left end for a short six-yard gain. Miller then went to the air, and found Courtney “Philly” Brown for a nice 38-yard gain that took the ball to the Miami, OH 23-yard line.
Miller once again went to the air as he found wide receiver Devin Smith, who made a fantastic one handed catch that put the Buckeyes on the board. The first touchdown of the Urban Meyer Era was a spectacular catch by Smith, that will sure be one of the catches of the year.
