There are a lot of new faces in the Angels organization this year, as well as a lot of returning players. Right now I will take a look at who might make the cut for the Angels 25 man roster.

The Rotation- This years 5 man rotation is going to be  a good one with the first four already set. That is Jared Weaver, Dan Harren, C.J. Wilson, and Ervin Santana. The 5th starter isn’t set for sure yet, but I am going to go with Garret Richards to round out the rotation, at least until Jerome Williams is healthy enough to challenge for the spot.

The Bullpen- So that’s 5 spots down 20 to go. We don’t know how many relief pitchers the Angels plan on carrying this year but lets say they go with 6. Jordan Walden will be the closer, at least to start the season. Scott Downs, La Troy Hawkins, and Hisanori Takahashi should be locks. Jason Isringhausen’s experience alone should get him a bullpen spot. He even had 7 saves last year with the Mets. There are a few people who would make a good candidate to be the 6th relief pitcher, but I am going to go with Rich Thompson. He didn’t do to bad last season, and is having a good spring. Other pitchers who will be fighting for a spot are Bobby Cassevah, Trevor Bell, Kevin Jepsen, and Michael Khon. All of those are good options, and likely will see time during the season as well.

The Infield- 11 spots does 14 to go. In the infield we have Chris Iannetta at catcher, Albert Pujols at first base, Howie Kendrick at second base, and Eric Aybar at short stop. Third base will probably see a lot of different players, but for this I am going to put Mark Trumbo. The other infielders that will see plenty of time is Alberto Callaspo, Macier Izturis, and Bobby Wilson. That might be all they need, but I am going to say Jorge Cantu makes the team. He has a lot of experience, and is having a great spring. He is also extra insurance for the corner infield spots. He is a non-roster invitee and would need to sign a contract, but I can see him being a good addition to the team.

The Outfield- That is 20 spots down leaving 5 spots for the Outfielders and the DH spot. Vernon Wells will be in left field, Peter Bourjas in Center Field, and Torii Hunter in Right Field. Bobby Abreu could fill in the corner spots just fine. If Kendrys Morales is healthy he can be the teams DH, and if he is not Trumbo can fill that spot as well. I am also assuming that Mike Trout will at least start the season in the minors to get his at bats in.

So that’s my 25 man roster. Looks good to me. There are a few decisions to make but most of the spots seem set. Can’t wait for the season to start to see how this line up does!
