Albert Pujols isn’t exactly tearing the cover off the ball. Actually, he’s not doing anything of value right now for the Angels, and as of right now their investment in him has been a bad one.

According to Hardballtalk, the Los Angeles Angels offense had a meeting with their hitting coach, Mickey Hatcher. During the meeting, Pujols reportedly stood up and pledged to get his act together. After the game, Hatcher decided to tell the media what was going on, and that’s where Pujols had a problem.

“Mickey should have never told you guys that,” Pujols said. “That stuff needs to be private. He should have never told the media.  What we talked about at the meeting, not disrespecting Mickey, but that stuff should stay behind closed doors.”

Pujols said he intends to speak with Hatcher about the matter.”

In the big scheme of things, I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I happen to agree with Pujols. The media should be on a “need to know basis” and things that happen in the clubhouse should stay in the clubhouse. There is nothing that upsets players more than when private conversation makes it’s way public. I mean, coaches need to understand that protecting the relationship with the player is the most important thing in the clubhouse, and once that trust is broken, it’s impossible to get it back.

Sure, maybe it’s a little sensitive, but I played a lot of baseball, and quite a bit at a high level and it’s something I believe in to the end of my days.

Let’s go Mickey. You know better than that.
