Jered Weaver throws No-Hitter for Angels
In a season where offense has been hard to come by for the Angels scoring 9 runs in one game against the Minnesota Twins would normally be the topic of discussion. Last night though Angels ace starting pitcher Jered Weaver stole the show by pitching his first No-Hit shut out of his career.
The No-Hitter was the ninth individual no-hitter in Angel history, and Weaver allowed only 2 base runners in the entire game. The first base runner reached on a strike-out pass ball on Chris Parmelee that got by catcher Chris Iannetta in the 2nd inning, while the 2nd base runner got on by a walk when Josh Willingham took 4 balls in the 7th inning. Weaver then retired the next 6 hitters, when the final batter of the 9th inning Alexi Casilla took the ball deep to right field that was caught by Angels right fielder Torii Hunter.
Weaver struck out 9 batters in the game, as he was in complete control from start to finish. When the game ended the home crowd in Anaheim stood in ovation chanting “Weaver! Weaver!”. His parents and wife was in the crowd, and came down on the field to congratulate a very emotional Jered after the game.
Kendrys Morales, and Howie Kendrick both hit home runs in the game, which is a great sign for an Angels team that needs to get its offense going, but only one was needed last night with the way Weaver pitched.
The Angels 3 game sweep of the Twins also had a complete game shutout by the Angels 5th starter Jerome Williams.
The last Angels no-hitter was last season when Ervin Santana no-hit the Cleveland Indians on July 27th 2011.
