He didn’t hit a single home-run as a Dodger, has a below average arm and was never a full time starter but Jamey Carroll was one of the most important pieces on the Dodgers the last two seasons.
Signed to much hilarity, the Dodgers needing a true bat at the time, and not some light hitting infielder, Jamey Carroll was blasted by fans but quickly became a fan favorite for his hustle, smart bat and quick fielding. Willing to play any position in the infield he was usually seen at 2B, SS and despite the below average strength wise but accurate arm even played some third in a pinch.
When Jamey started a game he was on base so much it was awkward to not see him there, posting on base percentages of .379 and .359 in the two seasons he was a Dodger. When Furcal went down against this season, along with Juan Uribe Jamey Carroll showed how important he was to this Dodger team starting a total of 111 games in 2011.
I loved this guy and I am sad to see him go but at the same time happy to see him go to a classy organization who will give him actual playing time at SS. I really feel like the Dodgers should have given Carroll the first shot at starting at second over anybody else and moved Uribe to third but it seems they felt he was too old and wanted to go younger or felt like his value was more on the bench, so I can’t blame him.
Jamey, you will be missed, it was only two seasons but I felt like you’d been here for much more!
