My first reaction to Frank McCourt saying he was sorry for everything that’s happened was “You aren’t sorry you sorry piece of…”but after I was able to calm down it came to me, he really is.
First and foremost, Frank McCourt loves baseball; I see it in his eyes. While he may not speak much about it, the very fact that he still showed up for Dodger game while all this was going on speaks volumes.
Let’s calm down lest we forget that he got the Dodgers farther in the playoffs than any owner since 1988 and were just a few games from a World Series, twice! Heck, before we lost to the Phillies a couple years ago, the Dodgers struggled to win even a single playoff game, being swept out the 1st round many times and the only win coming in Lima time.
Let’s remember, he renovated Dodger Stadium to be a more modern, gave us new seating space to fit more Dodger fans, fixed the horrible parking problem that plagued the stadium for a long time and gave us the “All-You-Can-Eat” pavilion…that alone is enough to give the man a break!
The only thing Frank is really guilty of is trying to run a baseball franchise like a business. Unfortunately he had never ran an organization, especially one that’s in the public eye so I feel he never how to really stay accountable.
This is to you Frank, you did a great job in the short time you were here, way better than the Fox Corporation did and that’s saying something but unfortunately you didn’t understand that the Dodgers do not belong to you, they belong to the fans, they belong to the city and to Major League Baseball. The Dodgers are bigger than you Frank, the history, the stories, the rivalries, the hurts, the pains, all pre-dated even your birth and you never seemed to grasp that until it was too late. So while I applaud your efforts, you came up short. We may never know how much of this mess was your wife’s doing and pushing but I expect it’s more than you’re willing to admit and I admonish you for that, you could’ve thrown her under the bus but you continued to show your love for her, even when she wanted to divorce you and you are a bigger man than a lot of these people who want to pin you to the wall.
So while you wore out your welcome and it’s unfortunate that most will remember how you messed up, I’ll remember the good times, thank you Frank McCourt for the good times and I accept your apology, you are forgiven in my eyes.
