MLB Rumors: Are The Dodgers Considering Calling Up Yasiel Puig
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the most active team in the world this year, or so it seems. Everyone wants to talk about the Hanley Ramirez trade, but the guy I think everyone is going to keep a close eye on is Yasiel Puig, the Cuban outfielder the Dodgers signed to that 41 million dollar deal earlier this year.
There are a ton of MLB Rumors flying around this because the Dodgers have already promoted Puig to high A after only 9 games in rookie league.
I think people are being a little too aggressive here. The kid is incredibly young, not completely polished, and that takes time, no matter how well someone hits in rookie league. I would put the odds of a September call up around 5% right now, and even that’s high I believe. If the Dodgers are in contention come September (and will be barring an insane collapse), there’s no reason to rush this kid to the big leagues. If there’s a ton of injuries and there’s no one left? Than we can talk about it.
Rushing a talent like this could be absolutely awful for the Dodgers long term. Their already a good baseball team, so why mess with the future when you don’t really have too? Yeah, I know everyone likes to jump on the bandwagon of all the MLB Rumors that hit the net, but this just doesn’t make sense.
Yasiel Puig is a talented kid, and has a bright future, I just don’t think his future is now.
