Miami’s best Fantasy options
It’s that time of year again. The minute the strike ended, the fantasy leagues begun. As week 3 of the preseason gears up, many computer jockies across the nation are preparing their draft boards for another tortuous year.
So where do the Dolphins fit into this year’s draft? Well, they are few and far between, but here the best picks based on quality and round.
1. Miami Dolphins D/ST – Clyde Gates and Phillip Livas returning kicks…has worked really well. But more importantly is the ‘Fins defense. Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor at OLB. A group of 7 stellar D-linemen. Smith and Davis at CB. This unit will be great and can be had relatively cheap in most leagues. Big sack numbers should counteract points scored against.
2. Reggie Bush RB – Yep, I’m saying it here. With a new Daboll-offense that produced a break-out year for Peyton Hillis, Bush figures to be a featured staple of this year’s offense. Daniel Thomas might get more looks in the redzone, but Bush will rack up yards receiving and rushing.
3. Brandon Marshall WR – Marshall’s stock is a bit too high in most leagues, but he would be a great No. 2 WR if you can sneak him in. Miami looks to feature the run more and Bush catching passes, but Marshall remains the best WR option on a team that will open in up when they have to.
4. Anthony Fasano TE – Fasano nearly killed me when I drafted him last year due to a mix of injuries and poor play, but in two preseason games he has been targeted by Chad Henne quite a bit. Ben Gates did well in Cleveland last year, so expect the same numbers for Fasano this year.
5. Daniel Thomas RB – Thomas will be eating the tough yards, but could also get a lot of the goalline carries for Miami. Bush will be the feature back, but Thomas would be a good reserve or plug-in player, especially late in the season when he sees more carries.
6. Dan Carpenter K – Never draft a kicker until the last round, and you could a lot worse than Carpenter. Tony Sparano trusts him from long distance, and he usually comes through with big kicks. Decent option in the late rounds.
7. Davone Bess WR – Bess is going undrafted in most leagues, and for good reason. He makes a lot of short catches, slants and screens. But he could also get back into the return game later in the season. Worth keeping an eye on.
Stay away from – Chad Henne QB, at least until he can prove something to a Fins fan, nonetheless the rest of the country. Brian Hartline WR, he should see ample time, but so far in preseason youngsters like Moore have seen more targets.
