NBA Rumors: Ricky Rubio To Return In December?
There will be plenty of positive buzz surrounding the Minnesota Timberwolves as the 2012-2013 season approaches, with Kevin Love looking to take another step in his career and Andrei Kirilenko and Alexey Shved both putting together solid showings for the Russian team in the just completed Summer Olympics.
But the player that may hold the team’s playoff chances in his hands the most is point guard Ricky Rubio as he recovers from a severe left knee injury that included a torn ACL. Recent news suggests he is making excellent progress as he works his way back to 100 percent, and may begin running in a few weeks, but he still may not return to game action until December. That most certainly means he will not be ready for training camp, and Rubio will not play early in the season. By domino effect, that means more playing time for Shved, Luke Ridnour and J.J. Barea in Minnesota’s backcourt over the season’s first two months or so.
Many eyes across the league, and certainly among Timberwolves’ followers and fans, will be on Rubio’s progress over the next few months. There will be a lot of speculation on when he will play in a game when he does return to any sort of on-court action, but no one will really know how much he can play right out of the gate or how effective he will be until we see him against an opponent. It can be assumed Rubio will be eased back into action in limited minutes during his first few games back, then be ready to dial it up and play a significant level of minutes just in time for a potential playoff push starting around the first of January.
