Mikko Koivu to Return for Wild Tonight Against Flames
Tonight, the Minnesota Wild will have a piece of its puzzle that has been missing for awhile-captain and center Mikko Koivu. Koivu, who has been out with an upper body injury that he suffered on February 16th in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets, has been greatly missed from the lineup. Aside from the obvious points that he has not been able to tally for his team, the absence of his leadership and energy that he brought to the arena every night has been very noticeable, and arguably one of the problems the many Wild has encountered. It appears that Mikko will be reunited with old line mates Devin Setoguchi and Dany Heatley tonight, a combination that played incredibly well earlier in the year when it was healthy.
Goaltender Josh Harding, who had a great outing on Monday night against the Vancouver Canucks, will get the nod between the pipes. He made 33 saves in a 2-0 shutout of one of the league’s most high-powered offenses.
Tonight’s opponent should provide a very interesting game for Wild fans. With the lines feeling a slight sense of normalcy and Minnesota coming off of a win over one of the NHL’s best teams, it might be fun to see how the team now matches up against a team in the Calgary Flames, who is fighting its playoff life. Calgary has taken four of five games from the Wild so far this season, but many of the pieces are in place for Minnesota to have a strong showing tonight and give its fans some exciting hockey to watch again.
The puck will drop between the two division foes at 7:00 in St. Paul.
