Adrian Beltre Sweepstakes Down To Red Sox & Angels


The Tigers have agreed to a 2-year contract extension with potential free agent third baseman Brandon Inge. The deal includes a 2013 club option, and Detroit is now out of the running for Adrian Beltre. Jon Heyman of SI.com tweeted on Thursday morning that Beltre will either sign with the Red Sox or the Angels, and it appears to be a two horse race for the All-Star third baseman… Los Angeles played a combination of Maicer Izturis and Alberto Callaspo (acquired mid-season from the Royals) at third base last year. Both players hit roughly .250 with non-existent power, and Beltre would provide a significant upgrade over either bat. Izturis is under contract for 2 more seasons.
