David Ortiz Expects To Return

Potential free agent David Ortiz attended the Celtics-Heat game last night in Boston and told the Boston Globe’s Michael Vega that he and the Red Sox would discuss his future with the club next week. The Sox hold a $12.5 million option on Big Papi for the 2011 season, and according to Peter Abraham of the Globe’s Extra Bases blog, “Ortiz said he was confident he would remain with the team next season”… The Sox have until 3 days after the World Series to make a decision on Ortiz’s option. Big Papi can become a free agent if he isn’t re-signed 5 days after the conclusion of the Fall Classic. My feeling is that Theo Epstein will decline the option in an attempt to sign Ortiz to a multi-year contract with a lower annual salary (something along the lines...
