Ahh, the friendly confines of an opposing teams clubhouse has eased the New York Mets woes as they visit the Milwaukee Brewers for a three game set this weekend.
After getting swept by the Washington Nationals, Jonathan Niese tonight pitched another solid performance and the Mets took advantage of timely hitting and a couple of errors by the Brewers to put seven runs on the board through eight innings.
Now, don’t get confused.
It only seems as thought the Mets play tremendously better on the road, but that is simply not the case. Overall, the Mets are still two games under .500 at 35-37 on the road, while posting a horrid 30-41 at home. But when as a team you only win five games at home since the All-Star break, the road doesn’t seem so lonely.
This team is an anomaly that just seems to score runs and find that crucial hit when they need it. The defense also seems to shore up while away from Citi Field and you have to begin to wonder if the place really is cursed.
Maybe it is the sad realization that the team will never be able to fill their stadium, therefore losing their home field advantage. Maybe the Mets need to do better research as to what players will best be suited for the dimensions of the park.
Either way you look at it, the Mets seem very happy on the road where they hit their home runs, place their doubles and actually produce sac flies.
Terry Collins can not even begin to explain this phenomena and I really do not think that the greatest scientists or theorists will ever be able to nail down the proper reasoning and algorithms to fix this problem. For now, the only thing that die-hard Mets fans can do is go and enjoy the beautiful, spacious park that the Wilpons have given them while awaiting for their team to leave so they may enjoy a win.
MetsFansRants Notes: Niese left the game after 6IP, 2R, 6H, 3BB and 5SOs. After his few July starts when he was extremely poor, Niese has bounced back with a very good August and is continuing that trend through September. Niese is showing that he will be an above average number three starter for 2013 and beyond. Also, Lucas Duda added his 14th HR of the season and we all hope that his swing will even out and he can show growth moving forward.
