The Milwaukee Brewers will look to finish off their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a sweep Wednesday afternoon. Milwaukee took the first two games of the series with a combined 9-1 score.
The Brewers are currently 2 1/2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card spot with 14 games to play. The only other team between them and St. Louis, is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are currently two games back of the Cardinals. Milwaukee must complete the sweep over Pittsburgh in order to keep the hot streak going and win their fifth game in a row.
The following is the Brewers lineup against the Pirates for Sept. 20:
Right Field: Norichika Aoki
Second Base: Rickie Weeks
Left Field: Ryan Braun
Third Base: Aramis Ramirez
First Base: Corey Hart
Catcher: Jonathan Lucroy
Center Field: Carlos Gomez
Shortstop: Jean Segura
Pitcher: Michael Fiers
Starter Michael Fiers gets the nod to lead Milwaukee into battle. Fiers is coming off of a rough start in which he allowed four earned runs on six hits in a loss to the New York Mets last Friday night. The right-hander has been a bit inconsistent in his last eight starts, in which he has surrendered as much as eight runs while also holding teams to one. If Milwaukee wants any chance of making a playoff run, they need him to focus and find his command again.
Corey Hart returns to the lineup after being absent since Sept. 9 with a left foot injury. Hart will be playing with some pain but understands the importance of him in the lineup. It takes a true leader to put the team before one’s own self.
Jean Segura gets a third consecutive start at shortstop after recording a combined four hits, three runs, and two RBIs in the last two games against the Pirates. Segura is really coming into his own and has become a major reason why the team is playing so well lately.
