When his career started for the Cincinnati Reds, Adam Dunn instantly was recognizable as one of the more powerful hitters in all of Major League Baseball. Now he has been with the Chicago White Sox for a while, he has grown into a complete ballplayer that focuses all of his energy in the right direction. Everyone loves a power hitter but Dunn has gone way beyond that point for the White Sox.
While he is still reliable with the bat and even from first now and then, Dunn spends most of his time as a designated hitter. That might bother some players but Dunn doesn’t focus so much on his personal stats or needs. Mostly he is a team guy. He loves playing for the team, helping the team win and doing anything he can to help the team achieve their goal of a world championship.
Last season when the Sox fell out of the race in the second half, Dunn was more than just disappointed. It almost seems to have actually hurt him. This is his team and he plans to do what he can to help them achieve success in every area of baseball. I won’t speculate whether or not Dunn is hall of fame material. That really doesn’t matter right now and he doesn’t seem focused on it either.
What does matter is that he plays the game the right way. He loves his team and will do anything he can to help them get the World Series win that they crave. Whether or not that happens this year or next is anyone’s guess. One thing is for sure. Dunn will give one hundred percent of himself to get it done.
