Some teams wind up spending the first month or so of the regular season with a quarter of the team on the disabled list. That is a bad start to the season and certainly nobody wants to see that happen to their team. What could be worse however is what has happened lately to the Minnesota Twins. They have been bitten by the injury bug for sure but it was a little different type of bite.
To begin with there are always one or two of the Twins on the DL at any one moment. That isn’t the problem really though. More the bigger issue are the little injures that seem to follow the team around right now. Wilkin Ramirez just was activated off of the Paternity List when he was plunked really hard in the back with a pick-off move. As it turns out, no one called pegging so he was safe.
Add to that there was a guy with the flu and another with a bothered ankle and the Twins nearly ran out of players for real. Now if you look at the depth chart and the starting line-up you might begin to wonder where a few of the guys are. I certainly did. The big blow right now is that Darin Mastroianni re-aggravated an ankle injury enough that he will spend time on the DL. The Twins recalled a top prospect to fill the position while he recovers. That is just a bad few days for the Twins any way you look at it. Hopefully better times are ahead.
