It seems like just the other day Brandon Phillips was coming up with the biggest hit of the year for the Cincinnati Reds as he won the game for them. Actually it was just the other day. The Reds are now playing a little better but have run up against a tougher than previously thought Miami Marlins team. Phillips and especially Shin-Soo Choo were up to the task.
Choo had a career day and was on base six times over the thirteen inning affair. He was officially 3 for 4 with three hits and three walks. He was on base for his career best sixth time in the bottom of the thirteenth. Phillips once again is proving why he is a real time MVP candidate as he drove in the winning run. The Reds still seem to be struggling a little bit but with guys like Choo and Phillips hitting on most cylinders they should be fine for a while.
Choo has been great all year and Phillips has too. When the two of them get help and some pitching, the Reds are pretty much unbeatable. They don’t need to be unbeatable when the clutch hitting Phillips is up to bat and Choo is on the basepaths though. What a great combination those two make.
It seems like Choo has just taken it upon himself to be on base basically all the time for the rest of the year. That way he’ll be out there when someone decides to drive him in. In all seriousness, Choo is having an All-star year so far. Phillips, as previously stated, is having an MVP year. We’ll see what happens I guess.
