I know the Kansas City Royals spent all kinds of money and effort making themselves a pitching heavy team. Not only did they try to do that but they succeeded and have a first place team to show for it. Though James Shields and Wade Davis are leading the pitching to a great start, there are other aspects of this team that are fun to watch. Billy Butler is the first name that pops into my head.
So far this season Butler is batting .254 with 3 homers and 14 RBI. That is quite good for a slugging hitter like him. Look at the last four games and you will see something different however. During the four game hit streak, Butler’s average has grown over 50 points including a 3 for 3 performance against some good pitcher for the Detroit Tigers.
Butler is definitely a highlight for the team and without a doubt is one of the more potent heavy hitters in the game. Go on and praise their good pitching and tell everyone that the Royals are in first because of their pitching. That might be perfectly true and I suspect that it is. Still, watching Jeff Francoeur throw someone out with a strong through and Butler drive in more runs with a big clutch hit are what will keep them on top.
