I don’t think there is a Major League Baseball fan on Earth that would say the New York Mets made a mistake with the large extension they gave David Wright during the offseason. But just in case there are a few doubters out there, take a look at his last three games. They are a perfect example of the kind of things this guy can do for the Mets. He has the ability to take his talents to an entirely different level at times like all of the greats.
Lately he has been on what you might call a three game hit streak. Or if you prefer, you could call it a three game homerun streak. Counting the last game against the Miami Marlins and the two games against the Atlanta Braves, Wright has homered in three straight games. Not only that, he is six for thirteen with six runs scored, three homers and four RBI over that stretch of games. In case you are a brand new baseball fan; that is outstanding.
The only game he had one hit in was the Friday night game against the Braves. That one hit just happened to tie the game in the ninth inning off of the near unhittable Craig Kimbrel. The Mets went on to win the game. Wright can hit the unhittable, get on base when nobody else can, drive in runs to break a shutout or make a great defensive play to keep one. I don’t know if the Mets will have a good enough season for him to get consideration this year but David Wright is the personification of the qualities you look for in an MVP. Simply stated, he is one of the very best in the game.
