Sitting where they are at 1.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox and tied with the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Yankees know better than to take any series for granted. The current series they have had to prepare for is a rare visit to Coors Field to play the impressive Colorado Rockies. Though the Rockies aren’t quite currently in first place, they have played well enough to stay there for most of the season.
It is going to be rainy and chilly if the weather reports are to be believed. Not that the Yankees are accustomed to Florida weather or anything, but with the atmosphere differences between Denver and everywhere else, it all could combine for a rough playing situation. That won’t be the most difficult part of the trip however.
The Rockies aren’t just a team with a large home field advantage this year. The are good and have the ability to beat anyone on any given day. Over the course of the series the Yankees are going to have to have their pitchers adjust to the slightly different way the ball moves because of thinner air. That shouldn’t be too terrible except for anyone that relies on a hard breaking stuff.
The Yankees are a class team and they will be ready to go. Of that I have no doubt. What I do have doubts about is which team will be able to come out with the series win. If by chance the Yankees can come in here and sweep this series, they would be able to ride that momentum clear up to first place. Hey, it’s a goal.
