Sometimes baseball is a really fun game to play and sometimes it feels like a team is going to fight in a different war each and every inning. It seems that way for the Minnesota Twins right now as they struggle against nearly everyone they face of late. You know the kind of thing I’m talking about. Not one superstar is hitting like he should, nor is one pitcher stepping up every time out to stop the skid. There isn’t a reliever that seems unhittable even for a moment.
Monday night against the Atlanta Braves, the Twins looked to get decent pitching and just needed to break through but could not. By the time they scored a run the game was basically out of reach. That is the kind of luck they are having. Tuesday saw them come back to tie once and rally to take the lead in the eighth inning. Once again nothing is easy and everything is a war right now so you know it wasn’t just a simple save situation. Evan Gattis took them out to tie the game.
Regardless of the outcome at that point the proof is there. They lost on a flare by the way. Nothing is automatic and nothing is easy. The result is a losing skid that has the Twins firmly planted at the bottom of their division, the American League Central which just also happens to be the home of baseball’s hottest team right now. All of that together spells not good for the Twins. I hate to say this already but it might be time that they start thinking about what they were going to do around the trade deadline if they weren’t in contention.
