Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez is being charged with possession of marijuana after a suspicious package arrived at his house.
Postal employees reported the suspicious package to authorities, who took over from there. Apparently, Perez wasn’t happy with his local supplier, as he allegedly had over a third of a pound of weed shipped to his home outside of Cleveland.
Perez is losing fans quickly. He has struggled to get back to the form he had in 2008 when he allowed just 12 earned runs in 63 innings of work. He did an exceptional job closing in 2012, but has already blown two saves in just eight opportunities this year and has already allowed eight runs in 16.2 innings pitched.
The closer is currently on the disabled list to cure an ailing shoulder, but he may be out for a little longer than originally expected. Perez looked like he needed a break more than anything; he had one of the worst outings of his career against the Boston Red Sox on May 26, giving up three walks and four earned runs in 0.2 IP and earning the loss. It was his last appearance before heading to the DL.
Perez also recently deleted his Twitter account after a few run-ins with fans that he wasn’t fond of. He was upset with Indians fans over their lack of attendance last season when the club was in first place.
