I’m sure you know that the Los Angeles Angels have been extremely disappointing so far this year. This was a team that was supposed to dominate thanks to their incredible offense and yet they have done anything but. Only the Houston Astros have kept them out of last place for most of the season and at times I began to wonder if that wouldn’t change. Of all the players that have not carried the weight or produced the offensive numbers they were supposed to, Mark Trumbo is not one of them.
To be fair things have been better overall for the Angels over the past several weeks. They are up to third place behind the deadlocked Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers but are still ten games behind. Trumbo has done his part though. He has 17 homers, has scored 42 runs and has 50 RBI going into Sunday. Sure his average is in the mid .200 range but he has never been a big average guy. If someone is going to hit 35 plus homers and drive in over a 100 runs, who cares if he hits .260?
Trumbo has kept up his end of the bargain. There are struggling pieces to the supposed offensive powerhouse to be sure. Josh Hamilton still hasn’t hit any resemblance of a stride in his season and Albert Pujols is battling his foot injury like a champ but it seems to be affecting him for a change. Through it all, as things begin to slowly improve for this offense, Trumbo has basically been there all year, producing every bit as much as he normally does. Kudos to him for that.
