New York Yankees Could End First Half on Positive Note

After a month of June filled with struggles and disappointments, the New York Yankees have a chance to end their first half with a few much needed wins.

The Yankees began the day six games behind the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East. No, not exactly good for them. But New York did just come off a four game sweep of the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Luckily for them, it looks like their winnings ways might continue heading into the All-Star break.

New York is playing tonight against the Baltimore Orioles, then another game Saturday and another Sunday. Baltimore has been impressive early, but if the Yankees can win at least one out of three, their schedule softens right up; they’ll have four against the mediocre Kansas City Royals, then three more against the Twins.

Furthermore, New York might have stars Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez back for these games, perhaps even both of them. Both have begun rehab games in the minor leagues, and it seems that they may return to the majors any day. New York is in sore need of these two veterans, especially considering how little offense they’ve gotten out of the third base and shortstop positions.

The Yankees first half has been a disappointment so far, but New York is poised to finish strong.
