Colorado Rockies need Dexter Fowler and Troy Tulowitzki Right Now

Not long ago it was the Colorado Rockies turn to pressure the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place and it looked for a little bit like they might grab the bull by the horns. With a sweep at the hands of the Diamondbacks, that has taken a back seat to trying not to fall too far from the lead pack. They aren’t that far behind the group right now but the sweep this weekend wasn’t the worst news they received.

The failed experiment of signing Roy Oswalt has taken an even worse turn than his 7+ ERA as he has a hamstring issue. Have you ever tried to pitch with a strained hamstring on your plant leg? Don’t try it; Oswalt will probably end up on the DL. Also Carlos Gonzalez was injured in a small but significant way as his finger was strained on a swing of the bat. That is worse of course. CarGo leads everyone in nearly everything in N.L. offensive stats. With all of this bad news the Rockies need a big boost in a big way.

It seems right now that the only thing that could right the Rockies ship quickly is the looming return of Dexter Fowler and Troy Tulowitzki. Both have been on the DL and that has certainly been a big blow for them. Both are starting rehab assignments at the same time this week. You have to believe that if things look to be fixed for each player, they’ll be all but rushed back to the Rockies starting line-up.

Fowler was a team carrying figure early in the season and can certainly give a huge boost to them. Not making any bones about it, the Rockies need Tulowitzki to come in and light the sky on fire. I mean they need him to hit the ground so hot it makes Yasiel Puig blush in shame. He can do it, but they need him to badly. It is the best way to stop this skid before it goes too badly for too long.
