No one really wants to think that one of their team’s best young players could have relied on PEDs to get there but that is the case sometimes. Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero is one of the players suspended for 50 games by the MLB after PED were used by him. Montero is a young player and he is a talented catcher. It might take a little time but he has plenty of time to overcome the stain of PEDs on his career.
Montero was with the New York Yankees organization before coming over to the Mariners and to be sure he did see a spike in numbers here and there. I’m not saying that was because he was using PEDs because it isn’t that simple that a player pops some of this and then turns around to hit twenty more homers. Talent is involved and Montero has plenty of it. He is also young enough that he should have plenty of time to overcome this scandal and move on with his career.

Hopefully Montero will be able to return to the Mariners even better, possibly healthier than he has been with the recent PED use. Either way, at least we can hope that the future performance he produces will not actually be enhanced by any means. I think that Montero will be a MLB caliber catcher for a long time. Considering his age and skill set, he should be able to achieve a career where PEDs are nothing but a tiny footnote at the top of the page that does not affect the end result of his efforts.
