The Cincinnati Reds are on fire right now. They have won seven of their last eight. The team is now only 0.5 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for second place in the NL Central, and only 3.5 games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates for first place in the NL Central.
The Reds are playing great baseball right now. Everything seems to be clicking, and while they seem like a great team right now, you have to remember the teams they have been playing.
In their last eight games, they have played the Oakland Athletics, the San Diego Padres, and the Chicago Cubs. The Athletics are a pretty solid team at 67-52, but the Reds only played two games against them. The Padres are 54-66 and in fourth place in the NL West, and the Cubs are awful at 58-62, tied for worst in the NL Central.
The Reds have taken advantage of their last eight games, which is great, but don’t get too excited about them. The Reds have had success against the sub .500 teams, but they have struggled against the teams that are over the .500 mark. To start the month, the Reds played a three-game series against the Cardinals and lost two of the three games. They gave up 13 runs in one game, and 15 in the other.
I am not saying that the Reds will get crushed each and every time they play a team with a winning record, I’m just saying that the last eight games that the Reds played really don’t show how good the team really is. It’s a fun time to be a Reds fan right now, and hopefully they can keep winning against the teams with awful records, and somehow end up winning the division and going far into the playoffs.
