The St. Louis Cardinals have always been known for their clutch comebacks.
They made another one on Monday in Milwaukee, scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-5.

Trailing 5-4 with two outs and the bases empty, the Cardinals’ Kolten Wong started the rally with an infield single, scoring the tying run on a single by Matt Adams moments later. Matt Carpenter followed with a single that knocked in Daniel Descalso with the go-ahead run, while a double by David Freese later in the frame plated Adams and Carpenter with a pair of insurance runs.
From there, St. Louis relievers Kevin Siegrist and Edward Mujica each pitched a scoreless inning, with the latter — the club’s closer — notching his 32nd save of the season despite allowing two hits in the bottom of the ninth.
The real story of the game, though, was the multi-run advantage the Cardinals were able to provide two of their top bullpen arms due to their scoring output in the top of the eighth. When a team succeeds in doing so, it greatly increases its chances of winning, which is something St. Louis has become very accustomed to doing while posting one of the best records in MLB.
Milwaukee has been just the opposite. They have struggled all year, not just on the field but off it as well, with the low point coming when star left fielder Ryan Braun was suspended for 65 games in July after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
Things got just a little worse for the Brew Crew thanks to another loss at the hands of the Cardinals.
As for St. Louis, it was more of the same, as it improved to 20 games over .500 and continued proving that the nickname “Clutch Cardinals” just might be the most fitting one of all.
