The Chicago Cubs have obviously built up one of the best farm systems in all of baseball. I’ve been thinking that they’ll try and use some of that depth to get a couple big names like David Price, Carlos Gonzalez, and/or Giancarlo Stanton (if he’s available). If they don’t make any trades, what do I envision the Cubs lineup being in say- 2015 if all goes EXACTLY PERFECTLY right? Let’s take a look.
1) Albert Almora- CF
Almora’s ability to hit the ball hard to all fields is going to make him a very intriguing play to hit leadoff. He can run, plays a strong Lf, and is developing some decent power. He could be a VERY interesting play for the Cubs over the next few years.
2) Starlin Castro-SS
Yup, I’m not ready to give up on him yet. If the Cubs allow him to get comfortable at the plate, get rid of the ridiculous open stance and moving hands, he could easily revert back to what he was a few years ago.
3) Anthony Rizzo- RF
Wow, did I really put Rizzo in right? I did. There’s a guy hitting 5th named Dan Vogelbach who can hit a baseball into orbit. He’s a bigger guy and no way can play the outfield. If Vogelbach is ready, Rizzo is moving.
4) Javier Baez- 2B
Someone has to move and I don’t think it’s Castro. Baez hit 35 homers in the minors this year. He’ll be at Wrigley next summer and I can’t wait.
5) Dan Vogelbach- 1B
As mentioned, he can hit a baseball very far. He’s really come a long way in terms of getting himself into better shape and I hope the Cubs hang on to him.
6) Kris Bryant-3B
The best hitter in college last year and number 2 pick overall can also MASH. I’m excited to see him at Wrigley as well.
7) Jorge Soler-LF
I’m not sure how his bat translates to the big league level in all honesty. He’s incredibly athletic but I’m not sure he’s like Yasiel Puig.
8) Wellington Castillo- C
He showed some growth over the last few months or so. Let’s see how he responds.
Still in the minors, busted, or traded for pitching:
1) Arismendy Alcantara- SS.
2) Matt Szczur- OF
3) Christian Villanueva-3B
4) Jae Moon-Ha- OF
5) Jeimer Candelario- 3B
There’s a ton of talent on this team. There’s guys that can hit for average and for power. There’s some speed and guys that can make things happen on the bases. I’m not sure this is a very good defensive squad, but you never know how these guys will develop. I’m excited about the future, but if this organization wants to win a championship or 2, they’ll need to use this depth and start going after guys via trade. All in all though, the Cubs are getting closer.
