Orioles vs. Tigers: ALDS Game 3 TV Schedule, Preview, Prediction
American League Division Series Game 3: Baltimore Orioles @ Detroit Tigers (BAL up 2-0)
Game Time, TV: Sunday, October 5, 2014 – 3:30 PM ET on TBS
Probable Starters: Bud Norris (15-8, 3.65 ERA) vs. David Price (15-12, 3.26 ERA)
Coming off a dramatic comeback win in Game 2, the Orioles find themselves just one more victory away from the ALCS. On the other end of things, the Tigers have to be shaking their heads after yet another bullpen meltdown in 2014.
The good news for the Tigers is that 2012 Cy Young award winner David Price will be taking the mound at home in Game 3. While it’s not completely up to the left-hander to save the season for Detroit, fans will be hoping for a performance like they witnessed last Sunday when he went 7 1/3 shutout innings to help the Tigers clinch the AL Central.
Bud Norris will toe the rubber for Baltimore, in what will be his first ever postseason appearance. Miguel Gonzalez was originally tabbed as the Game 3 starter, and it’s unclear at this time why the change was made. It will be interesting to see what the Orioles do moving forward if Gonzalez is injured, and if they can’t clinch the series on Sunday.
It seems unlikely that the Orioles will put up as many runs as they have in the first two ALDS games (19 total), especially given that they’re facing Price. But there’s no telling what can happen when a team is swinging the bat like Buck Showalter’s is.
If you’re a Tigers fan, you should probably hope for Price going the distance, which will avoid any potentially deadly calls to the pen.
Prediction: Detroit avoids the sweep as Price cools down Baltimore’s bats, 5-3.
